Not too sure about the scientifc names, but I think one is commonly known as sp. Singapore and one US.![]()

Hi, Martin,
If you want to draw up a list of the 10 most popular aquarium mosses, I would suggest you be a bit more specific about the names. In your list, there's a Creeping Moss. Honestly, we are not sure which is the genuine Creeping Moss. We don't know the genus and we are not even sure if it's the same as some of the other aquarium mosses that we have already identified.
Anyway, here's my list. I rank them in order of beauty. In other words, the first moss on my list is the one that I think is the most beautiful moss of all.
1. Spiky Moss - Taxiphyllum sp
2. Singapore Moss - Vesicularia dubyana
3. Erect Moss - Vesicularia reticulata
4. Weeping Moss - Vesicularia ferriei
5. Fountain Moss - Fissidens fontanus
6. Zipper Moss - Fissidens zippelianus
7. Taiwan Moss - Taxiphyllum alternans
8. Mini-Java Moss - Taxiphyllum sp
9. Willow Moss - Fontinalis antipyretica
10. Plagiomnium sp.
I did not include Flame Moss (Taxiphyllum sp) on my list because I don't think it's a lovely moss. It is however distinctly different from the other aquarium mosses we know. As for Erect Moss, it has all but disappeared from the aquaria scene in Singapore. I hope the hobbyists in other countries are keeping it alive in their tanks. It would be a real pity if this moss is lost to us forever.

Hi Loh.
Perhaps you are correct on the names. I just put Creeping moss in because I have it, and it's rather nice.
My version is from Armin in Poland.

Martin

Martin,
If you have some Creeping Moss to spare, send some to me and I'll see what I can do to get it identified. No promises though as the professor is very busy these days with his new job at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
Loh K L

Loh, I do, and will send you some together with the V. reticulata.

Martin

I hope what you guys have is the real Erect Moss, Zobek. We're depending on you all to keep the moss around.Originally Posted by zobek
I don't know, Martin. I know of only one Plagiomnium and I'm not sure which species is it.Originally Posted by Martin

As we can read on this side (This is Armin's site, and there is written you have identified that moss as real erect moss, when he had sent it to you) , at least one of "us" has real erect mossOriginally Posted by timebomb

But I think, that there more people in my country with real erect moss. I've got a moss I think is erect moss in my tank, so we can try to recultivate it in singapore. All we have to do is wait about 2 weeks, because it have to grow up a bit in my tank![]()
The Erect Moss in Armin's tanks is definitely the genuine one, I can vouch for that. Please share this moss with your hobbyist friends in Poland. We need more of you to grow this moss in your tanks because as far as I know, yours is one of the few countries where the Erect Moss hasn't turned brown yet. Dennis (Mr Moss) who lives in the US of A used to have lots of Erect Moss in his tanks too but just like us, his has all turned brown and died.

I have about 40x30cm mat of Erect moss at work.
seems to thrive.
