Hi all, understand that recently there was an influx of wild discus into singapore. Alot of people has been getting this wild discus from local LFS. I personally got a few pieces of heckel.

Would like to find out how long does it take to conditioned this beautiful fishes before their stable in our tanks.

Any one can show pictures of their recent purchases??

I think mine settled down pretty well in the 1st week. Initial few days the first 6 of them were quite skittish but were eating right from day 1. After I got 4 more to make it a crowd of 10 a few days later, they became very outgoing and swim freely.

mine were eating from day 1 too, but not as easily acclimitized as quix. Mine took about 1-2 weeks to fully settle in, and like quix, I found that once I added to their numbers, they relaxed alot more and began to swim freely. After a few days of that, they recognized me as the "bloodworm guy" and came to greet me at the front of the tank everytime i went near.

Haha all the best raymond I've been waiting for blue faced heckels to arrive since a few months back...FH said they ordered and in fact a few days before their last shipment came told me most likely that shipment would have blue faced heckels in it...unfortunately i was disappointed In the end got impatient and bought my full quota of normal heckels instead. Hope i don't regret it! I'll have to wait for next year's season for my new tank to be set up and hope that blue faced heckels come in then

In terms of setting up a community comprising of different species of wild discus, think Heiko always discourage us against mixing species. He feels that heckels should stay with heckels, greens with greens and blue/brown is ok to stay together. I suppose this is due to the difference in their natural water composition (heckels in lowest PH, followed by greens and then blue/brown) and also character. But have also seen others who have mixed species successfully. So I guess nothing is absolute.

I've seen all 3 species of wild discus arrive in our LFS in the past few weeks. Currently most abundant are heckels, followed by greens...i believe blue/brown are sold out and currently awaiting further shipments

    hi guys

I also bought 5 pcs from FH abot 2 weeks back. Didnt noticed this thread as I have just posted a picture of them at the LFS sighting thread.

In fact, I took the last few small heckels from FH and they got use to my tank conditions very well and were eating within a few hours. All are happily swimming around now but the joke is that they are being bullied by my german ram pair who are robustly protecting their spawning site.

Very nice fish, hope our LFS bring in the blue face heckels soon.

I actually slightly regret getting FH's...I find C328's more stable and lively! I may be bringing forward my plans to set up a discus/cory biotope tank...maybe still in time to catch this season!
