Discus turn black have some reason,
1) stun
2) water condition
3) sick
4) after water change
Hi,
i got a pair of discus, 1 male and 1 female. Got brown substrate in my tank and 2 plants and 2 logs. The female had gotten some black stuff on the fins, and parts of the body, what can cause it to happen? I think it's dirt but the male is ok, dont have the black stuff.
What can cause this?
Thanks.![]()

sometime could be due to background also. Do you stick the background with black oyama?
Hi,
Thanks for the replies. There is no background... i mean the tank is see-through.. by the way, what is black oyama?
The black part is on the fins, tail and abit on the head area, the rest of the body which is red is ok.. is still maintaining the red color and still looks nice.
I'm just wondering if the black part is dirt? or really color turned black?
I got soil and plants and log, can it be due to the soil/plants/log? The soil is brown.
Any idea?
Thanks for your help.![]()

Hi,
My discus is the Red discus, full body red, the head area abit white/orange.
Thanks.
hi, thanks for the info. ya, seems like it's not sick, it's still eating and swimming around... everything seems fine. maybe i will check the strain...
I had since removed the soil. Just to check, do any of you put soil in your discus tank? If yes, what kind of soil?
