Shrimp are algae eating species, that's why there are so many food that specially just for shrimp, they are high plant base and small amount of animal contents. Feeding your shrimp with fish food that contain high protein animal based food can kill your shrimps in a long term feeding.

Those 2 at the front are red cherries.

Perhaps these are a better reference but not official:

    Red Cherry

In between red cherry and sakura

    Sakura

    Again, just reference.

HI bro! Really thanks for the pictures. Really clear cut. Hee Hee. Must print out and bring them along when buying those shrimps. I always get to choose from the tank and i suspect all the shrimps in my tank all female because i only want big size ones. LOL. "Cheap and BIg" sounds familiar.

Yeah female are bigger in size and a lot redder than male.

Actually those "In between" are very very red if view by naked eye, I thought they can qualify as Sakura too but when take a macro on them, can still see certain percentage of transparent and white spot.

Has anyone try to differentiate the differences of Sakura versus Cherry by using the skunk stripe on its back as well as tiger stripe/spotting on its abdomen.
I noticed my Cherries consist of 3 types.
Cherry: Orange Red with skunk stripe and tiger stripe/spotting around its abdomen.
Hybrid: Red with either tiger stripe/spotting or skunk stripe or both.
    Sakura?: Solid intense red.

Has anyone purposely bred cherry shrimp to highlight the skunk stripe?
It would look like a marine cleaner shrimp.
    Thanks

    very interesting theory indeed!

i believe afterall it's just the genetic difference in the colour pigmentation.

say the male is a cherry while female is a sakura, either the strong pigmentation or weak pigmentation is a dominant gene.

anyone care to test it out? using a strong pigmentated male (although males i've seen all are at least partially transparent) with a sakura female. see the percentage of the spawn to be cherries / sakura can determine whether the gene of colour pigmentation is dominant or ressesive. this can be beneficial for all of us, doing strain selection so we will only get strongly coloured cherries/sakuras in the future
