Where to get clear hose and is it safe for use?

Hello people. Does anyone know where I can purchase some 12/16 clear hose for my filter? Preferably rubber hoses. Regards

I find this is quite amazing! We have a lot of expensive glass products from Cal Labs and ADA, and let's not forget those knock offs, etc, and a lot of retail shops that support these glass products and yet this simple clear hoses are no where to be found ^_^"

I'm very very sure there are a lot of hobbyist out there looking for these too! For now I guess I just has to settle with eheim hoses, good product nonetheless.

I got the clear one from hardware shop before. I find it is not as good as Eheim green ones...Like doesnt fix well

Clear tubings can be found at most hardware stores...found mine easily when i wanted something similar for my Hydor prime.

I just check with the aqua shop in Havlock Rd... They are bringing in clear hose next week... 12/16. Btw is $1 per meter.

Hi folks,

If you guys use the normal transparent hose from any harware shop for tank maintenance, this is really very useful but as for filter canister... will prove a little fatality to your beloved livestock due to PVC toxic that will emit into the tank.

That why i always buy any silica mixture green hose(made in Taiwan) from LFS ,of course not the pricy Eheim hose which are free of toxic or chemical or whatever.

Did not realize the possible harm that could come from using PVC hose?Did not even know that aquarium hoses were of different components!

I was just fortunate enough that nothing happened to my livestock so far...

May I know where did you get this information? I know there are many many different grades and kinds of PVC plumbing products, made with different types of PVC materials. So I don't think we can generalise PVC as a whole.

But it would be helpful if you could provide a detail information about it. thanks!

Hi BlackBushAlage,

Hmmm... do you remember last few years ago, there were numbers of Thai workers who had died in their sleep due to PVC poison toxic( steamed their glutinous rice on PVC pipe instead of bamboo shaft.)

I had tried using PVC hose to connect my Eheim 2217 filter(bought from Hardware) before years ago and what I got at least 4 dead beloved blue finned Frontosa and 2 dead Oscars! My good friend from Dept Biological Science, NUS has warned the danger of using any PVC hose and requested that I need to replace PVC hose to the green one immediately as they had bad experience using PVC hose for their research before.

Do you notice most of the LFS do not sell any PVC hose for their stock. That the reason why. I'll leave it to any experts in this forum who had experience will share the situation.

My goodness I did not know clear PVC pipe can cause such catastrophe to fishes... But what is the green piple made off aren't they also PVC??

Viper007, as far as I know, the original ones from Eheim doesn't contain the harmful substance that can kill livestock. They use different compound that are not similar to the pvc ones and do not harm the livestock in the tank. But there are imitation being sold with similar colour but no one knows whether they are similar to the original or not.

Well, conclusion is to spend more for good hose that comes from LSF

Too bad white does not fall in the category.
