Guess its time to let the experts check it since its especially worrying that after realigning, it started for 10min then the problem came back. I'm thinking its to do with the motor.
Hi Guys,
I just cleaned up my 2028 yesterday, replacing the wool + washing the medias.
I commissioned it back, and it was running fine, until 6hrs later, the flow stopped and a loud rattling noise can be heard. I have checked the impeller, and it seems that there are no cracks.
Realign back and this time after 10mins, the flow stopped again, the rattling came back.
I did the priming method, shake the canister to remove any airlock, but it seems to have no effect at all. Still hearing the rattling sound, and still now flow.
Guess all the bacteria in the medias have died, since its more than 10hrs of battling.
Any other advice?

re-prime and check for air pockets in the inlet pipe.
check and ensure that the filter canister is filled with water.

what's the media you are using?
there is a rubber bush ( hope i spell it correctly ) at the tip of your impeller shaft, did you place it back after cleaning your impeller or you might had misplace it or not knowing there is this tiny black rubber bush there.

I hope this helps. I had this issue as well. Strangely it was nothing to with the cover. But a little plastic "tube" "attachment". I did a search and found the part. What happens, from what I think at least is the pump does not get a good suction. Well give it a try: PART NO: 7342200

If not. The main distributor is Qian Hu as you are in Singapore.

Happened to mine also. In the end, found that the impeller has broken.
Not cheap to replace.
I think once you hear the rattling, must stop the power immediately to reduce the chance of breaking the impeller.
Priming the 2028 is not very easy especially with older units. I found a better way which is to pump water through a hose (from the tap) at the inlet. Hopefully it doesn't kill to many bacteria this way. So far so good. I can saved lots of energy!![]()

If it is working when it was started out initallly, it meant everything should be in good condition. As other bros had pointed out the impeller, another thing you can look at is checking the water level in the canister.
If the water level had gone down after a few hours, which caused the loud rattling noise, then it could be likely to your inlet pipe leaking air into the inlet supply.
Each time the flow in is 98% water and drawn in some air, after some time, the ouput will be more than input and the rattling noise and the water will stop flowing due to the air in the canister.
IF so, check whether if you had adjusted or done anything to the inlet pipe, check for air pockets and seal it up if possible.
It could be other issues too, so please share once you figure out the problem. Cheers!
The impeller have a ceramic stick connected to it. Check that the rubber stopper is still there at the end of the ceramic stick and that the ceramic stick is not broken.

Used to have this rattling noise too when i first set up my tank using 2026. It was found to be a faulty impeller cover which came loose and can't fit properly.

Hi All,
Thanks for the advise. It is finally working now for the past 2hrs.
1. Change the shaft and the rubber end-cap at each end. I was told by petmart that because the rubber end-cap has worn out, therefore the shaft/impeller was able to vibrate when airlock.
2. Manage to "shake" out many air bubbles into the outlet, and filled up the inlet tubing. Note that I am using Eheim installation set 1 and 2, thus is easier to do so.
I believe the final cause of this problem is due to air in the inlet tubing, and the worn out rubber end-cap.
Thanks for all the advise given. Appreciate.
