    Dear all,
I have some good news for ISTA External Reactors. OTF (Pasir Ris Farm) will be bringing in the 'S' size reactors in January 2009. Suitable for small tanks.

I got this info first hand from the suppliers of OTF. Cheers!

Infact medium size onwards is good, the longer it stay in the spin and water the better mix of CO2 in your tank.

Yerp, true but it depends on the flow rate as well. I can use the 'M' size with my Eheim 2211 for my 1 feet tank but if i pump in too much co2, the fan will stop spinning as there's too much Co2.

For the design itself, it need quite abit of flow to make it spin wildly, too slow and you are waiting for the CO2 to build up, i used the M size before, dump it now, dirt starts to clog in fast and slow down everything.

merry christmas to you too blue33!!! neh... i was joking about the reactor. i think the medium size is just nice for my 2 feet and 2213. i was think of modifying it actually. putting a diffusor in the reactor. but it seems there's not much space for the ceramic diffusor.

I used 2213 to drive the reactor before, it failed me after sometime, hope you have better luck.

Ya, I had the chocking problem when they was a sponge at the bottom end of it. So frustrated that I removed it and it worked fine. But I believe the new one has rectified the design. The sponge is being replaced by 'fins'... or how you describe it.

The old one is using sponge, the new one comes with fin at the bottom, but it clogged with dirts later on.

Yeah! Thats the reason after awhile the fin stop spinning and worst is CO2 build up and so on... there's once the filter jam due to this. I do clean often, still... sigh...

are these fins you guys talking about located at the very bottom of the reactor? those are supposed to move???

i thought they were fixed fins.

    oh dear again~

or are you guys talking about the second rotating impeller below the first impeller from the very top of the reactor?

I used to have an M sized reactor. The bottom fins seized after some time also, even after I took it out and filed down the sides. After some time it's not as effective from my experience. It collects dirt too.A lot.

In the end I gave up and used a diffuser.

    Hi Guys

Are all the diffuser only can use for 2ft and below and for 2ft above had to use a reactor?

Ista external reactor has a known problem of clogging due to design. I would prefer if the design is inlet top, co2 top, outlet bottom or inlet top, co2 bottom, outlet top.

I have both the medium and large size ISTA External Reactors. The bottom fin had stopped rotating after some time. Nevertheless, I am still using the reactors, although it may not be that effective.
