    Hi,

recently I have a bit of leakage from my cannister filter and it led me to start toying with the idea of using an internal filter to replace my cannister (with the scene of coming home to a flooded sitting room keep playing on my mind)

Has anybody had any success with an internal filter as a main and only filtration for a 200L planted tank? I am thinking more of filters like Dennerle's C400 which is taken off the production line now, or Sera's Biofilter B400.

I know most of these internal filters are quite weak, and is opened to the idea of using 2 instead of one.

    Any feedback will be appreciated

    thanks

If the filter can support your existing lifestock and provide the required flowrate and circulation, I don't see why not.
Some designs including china and taiwan makes, allow for filter media extentions and even surface skimming, some can also be connected to rainbars, pipe extentions, diffusers etc..

and maybe u can add powerheads (with OHF gives additional filtrations) or without (makesure u mesh cover is there - maybe can wrap sponge around cover if u have fries/shrimps) ,to increase the flow.

    jus my thought.

    cheers!

As my tank is a planted tank, I am most concern with water agitation and flow rate, which OHF kind of rate pretty bad in this 2 instances?? My bioload is pretty low, about 20 - 30 small fish, eg, guppy, SAE.

this one is an eye opener....but how do you clean the filter? and once the filter matured, read: slimy and brown, it would ne unsightly wouldn't it?

Most of the China make products only have space for sponges, thats why I am looking at Sera whihc have compartments for foams and ceramic rings. But really hard to find, maybe will call Sera Centre to find out.

Or else will have to turn to Eheim Aqua ball, but the rating is only max 200L aquarium.
