Well here it is. 2 Seasons in draftIts not fully done yet, minor touch up and changes will likely be made as they grow...but more or less this is what it looks like
Very interesting concept you have there... I wonder if the thermometer shows different reading for the 2 tanks! The 2ft light running across the 2 tanks are not too ideal as the sides of both tanks are shaded. The next challenge is of course to maintain the white sand

Both tanks cycled and fauna added. Plant growth is ok. Fish and shrimp health is good. But still a couple of problems
1)"Winter's" snow is very dirty now. How to clean w/o disturbing the substrate too much?
2)"Spring" has become a sakura palace but it got contaminated by"Brown hair algae" Is there some kind of "product" I can use? I know malayans are good but I really dun want other shrimp type to mix in.
3)Any idea if LFS sell plant weights of where i can get them?

sorry to hijack thread, can the borneo fern survive in a low light tank? it looks quite beautiful and small enuf to fit it my 2.5g viv. is it commonly found in lfs?
You can find in the lower end LFS but as mentioned they are not aquatic.While I'm not very sure myself and have replaced mine, I don't think they can survive very well.
erm, can u kindly define lower end lfs...
i intend to plant it in my vivarium, which is very humid. however i cant find any info on its light requirements. all my other flora are low light plants.
since its only 1 dollar no harm trying to find a lower end lfs to get a beautiful specimen.

The fern you got belongs to the genus Trichomanes most probably T.maximum, T.javanicum or T. singaporeanum. They usualy are found growing on boulders and rocks around shaded streams or wet shady banks in SEA.
I've tried a couple of times for terraiums. Pretty cool. Make sure its cool and moist and not too bright. Grows very slowly.

Hi petia I'm not too sure on how to help you but you gotta go do some searching yourself I guess. Probably thoes small and not popular ones might have.other than that I'm not sure what else I can tell.
Back to 2 seasons...I had a sudden out burst of green hair algae which i got rid of using AZOO algae treatment but it did not do much against the brown hair algae that I have and also it caused the death of 1 x oto and 5 silver tetras. The badis badis and neon tertas were mildly affected as they stopped eating but a 30% water change and they were back to "healthy" again. Not sure why the adverse reaction but I actually added less than the recommend dose and the fishes KO in less than 2hrs. I'm just glad the rest survived.
On to the plants. Suprsingly there are bubbles on my fissidens and yet i have no co2 added.Not sure where the bubbles are coming from though. Other than that I'm working to increase the lighting in my tank. The plants are growing as in I constanly see new sprouts but they are not very green. I sort of have brown patches here and there. Best I can describes is that they..grow fast and die fast? I think I'll need to go read up more to figure things out.
In summary "spring" is ok less the pesky brown hair algae."Winter" im still trying to figure out how to clean he white sand and both i'm thinking needs more light.
