hi, my jave moss is doing well on my driftwood and hence i am thinking of creating a java moss wall for my 2.5fts tank...

with the moss wall up, i can't attach my rainbar of my canister filter to the back of the tank anymore... placing it at the side of the tank will be difficult to conceal it.

any advices on how to hide the rainbar?

    thanks.

How about submerge the rainbar near the bottom of the back wall? Achor it to something on the substrate.

    bc,

i read it from somewhere that it is not advisable to place the rainbar near to the gravel... as it will blow up the settling dirts..

    correct me if am wrong..

My rainbar is on the top, side wall which is barely noticable when viewed from the front.
    Cheers!!

You don't need to have it flowing downwards. You can adjust the direction of the flow.

Anyway, personally, I don't think blowing up the settling dirt is a problem. The dirt will still settle somewhere away from the rainbar.

you can try tying your rainbar with moss as well.
or use an angle piping to set it vertical by the side of your wall.

Just thinking, it might be cool if your moss wall can hang on the rainbar's sucker too... using nylon lines maybe?

hwchoy, tell you what to do to avoid that fish trap thing, trim your styro backing until it fits your tank snuggly, then push it down at least 2cm into your gravel (in case of settling). No prob.

dragon, submerge your rainbar near the bottom and turn it until the holes face up, won't cause too much turbulence to your water surface. give it a try? [:]

nyah! gave up on moss wall already [] first of all moss never grew well in my tank, maybe too warm, plus it traps a phenomenal amount of dirt! amazingly moss is growing really well in a filterless "pond" outside the house where it is expose to the elements (although not direct sunlight). never took the water temperature but I suppose the breeze would cool the water down quite a bit. the moss is now growing stuck to the rock.

hahaha, ok lah choy, methinks it's terrestrial moss that you see - those found on the edge of water lines along drains? maybe those not so demanding. []

My moss wall (with the aforementioned mentioned) is growing quite ok @ 27-28C. other than that it's my SAEs and shrimps that's stripping some stalks of their mossy look - look like green strands. but dun mind lah, cant blame vegetarian when they eat plants, can I?

hi guys, thanks for all the advices... i think i would tie the rainbar suction cap to the wire-mesh for the mosswall...and place it as low as possible on the back of the tank...

    it should work.. cheers!

anakin, according to subzero who actually found the Bk Timah moss in (where else!!) Bk Timah, it was growing in some cool stream and has xmas moss-like frond. I think it is the same moss as shown in the pics in this thread just different form for emerse and submerse.

ps: it really grows like christmas moss with large triangular fronds.

I do not use rainbar and I arrange the filter pipes such that they are very compact and neat. See picture. Note the output tube is located just 2" above the gravel level and is blowing towards the other corner of the back wall.

FC, post the whole URL without linking. We should be able to go in if we cut and paste.

Someone told me (Benny?) that if you tie your rainbar above and let the output sweep pass your moss wall, your moss will grow well.

So, one day I decided to try it and I redirect my output from my CO2 reactor and sweep it across my Java/Xmoss wall and Willow Moss wall and true enough, most of my moss grow better!

Maybe you can tie some moss to your rainbar and then redirect your output down, sweeping it across your moss wall. Just an idea from me.... []
