HI I just found my nitrate level for one of my nano tank was very high. SO I did a 50 percent water change, tested again and getting the same result. Is there a way to reduce this level. 4 scarlet badis, 1 platy,1 tetra, 2 small gold fish and two bb goby. Need your advise.

How old is your tank? are you sure your tester working? You can try testing tap water.

    HI shadow,

I managed to solve the problem. This is what I did.

    1) Yesterday Nitrate all time high at 10 so did a WC 50 % (salt+ anticholrine added) yesterday, today found nitrate still high at 1.0Mgl

    2) another 50 % wc again with salt + ant-cholrine added, managed to lower nitrate to less 05mgl.

Have to monitor tomorrow. By the way do you know how much of fish can a 2ft tank can hold (interms of correct standards). My 2ft now seems to be in trouble with the same problem.

Are your tanks planted? Any substrate or bare bottom? Easiest way to reduce nitrates is plants probably. Frequent water changes are probably not going to be good for fauna in the long run.

Goldfish produce a lot of waste, might want to move those to a bigger tank.
