Just transferred 4 large Yamatos in to see if they will do the job, if not I have to go hunt down some Malayan shrimp and give it a go.
a question about cycling the tank with ada soil , how long before its properly cycled using a mature media ?

I am already doing that, thanks to you. Except for the CO2, as I am still using manual gauge.

    i cut the co2 rate to 2bps too .
    Glad to hear that.

Straight 8-10hrs of lights is ok. With properly cycled and well-balanced tank, algae is most of time kept to the minimium.

There are many things that causes algae growth. For my case, one of the cause was insufficient light. This causes BBA to crept into my tank. Plus I have a few other factors that causes BBA growth. Now I paid the price of impatience. I am doing manual cutting of the BBA every few days. Bumble bee snail and malayan shrimps didn't help much. And SAE is a no no for my tank.
