    My Super low tech 4ft tank (bare bottom). As discus was in the tank first, and due to no spare tank , was unable to add in soil or anything but to add in hard scale only.

    Set up as follow ;

    1) Dolphin C1000 canister filter
    2) light 24/7
    3) No co2, no fert
    4) 6 otts
    5) 13 tiger blub
    6) 1 ram
    7) 3 tatra

    technically, I will consider this to be a fish tank with plant.

    Curious why you're keeping lights on 24/7?

    I also have to agree that this tank isn't really planted enough. Why not add in some big driftwoods and dress them up with plants like moss and ferns.

    Bare bottom is no issue if you can scape it with other hardscapes.
    Studying the water chemistry and nutrients is a science.
    Knowing what plants to get and how to use them is an art.
    Aquascaping is a marriage of art and science, the logical and emotional.

    can the Hygrophila difformis survive in this tank without fert?
