I'm thinking of trying B.sidthimunki for snail control

Sometime back a few AQ folks went down to QH or YH to get some?

Any feedback? Do they eat the snails? How are they doing in your tank?

Also, how much did you pay for them? Have you seen them in any other LFS besides QianHu?

    thanks

why don't you try the horseface loach, seen them around on and off, couple of bucks each. works wonder with snails.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

hwchoy, but these horseface loaches get pretty big rite? apparently as big as clown loaches. My tank has small fish, tetras, corys, a big loach would look pretty strange..

just found the thread on the dwarf chain loach. Are they really 10 bucks a pop at QH? David, Chris?

mine was about 5-in but it was so skinny it doesn't look big. plus most of the time you can't really see it. certainly the chain loach looks "prettier" but the horseface is quite "cute" and it is very interesting to see it gobble up the gravel and spitting them out through the gill covers [:]

make sure you get the right ones though, not the longfaced loach.

eggz, thats roughly the price they're going for. some shops selling them for $7 each. but considering the fact that they're schooling fish, u'd be paying quite alot for a shoal of these loaches. a single loach wouldn't do very well unless u get a school. they're somewhat close to extinction in the wild so the stocks u see are farm-bred fish. nice buggers though. regarding snails, they might just snack on the smaller ones but not the bigger ones.

    eggz,

The price at QH is subject to contacts... if you know the right people, you can get it cheaper. If not, you can try choon sua aquarium in beauty world... I think they are selling them for about $7 a piece.

alamak, horseface loach very cute one, some time it will hide in the gravel, just leaving its eyes sticking out of the gravel [:]
