Wow, the moss grows well, nice! Actually I like your initial tree trunk setup. Too bad it was covered by the overgrown moss. If can control it to grow on portions of trunk plus plant some needle fern at back or side of trunk. That would be nice![]()
Hey guys,
started my own one feet tank back in August, when I decided to have my own fish tank in my school's hall.
Since I moved back home, the fish tank is now back at home too. Some 5 months later the moss has grown so much I think its time to start trimming. Does anyone have any tips on trimming the moss?
Anyway, some specs about the tank.
Lighting: 24W Illuminax switched on 7 hours a day
Filter: A simple HOF and Eden 501
CO2: None, at the start some daily dosing of Flourish Excel, haven't done dosing in 1+ month
Temperature: 24 - 25C for the past month with a 9W fan, before that was hovering around 26-27C. Quite surprised by the cool temperature without a chiller.
Yea anyone with any advise on how to improve my tank? Much appreciated!

your bioload seems to be very high, I counted around 50 fishes.
don't trim , like that looks nice and wild...
but looks like you have too many fishes...
If the moss is too thick, it'll dislodge from there. Moss can be trim in any shape you like.![]()

TKS7011: Ya I was thinking of adding something at the back, but figured out I'll live with this as I have little space to work with in the tank with this trunk around.
Shadow/fireblade: Yea, but I do like more fishes, and I have 2 filters running in there, so far so good.
blue33: Oh really? but if you notice the bottom right corner, there's actually an overgrowth such that the moss are already growing to cover my glass wall.
Anyone has any idea if CRS will survive in a tank as such? Are guppies or cardinals known to munch on CRS as lunch/dinner?
Yes you can, i cut them like grass moaning. With your tank size, your CRS will gone in no time.![]()

ya, that looks like a 1ft 's tetra crapped sardine can. Feel sorry for the fishes.
Tank that size, i would only keep 5-7 tetra/characines... max.
However, i did observed the same guppies and tetra within the same tank in these months of growth, so smea's biofilter could be extremely good.
Too much tetras.... i would leave only 10 of them in there....
With so many fishes in the tank, it may casue undue stress on your CRSs... As for CRS shrimplets, guess they will be additional snacks for the fishes then...
Regards.
No carbon supplementation? The plants seem to be doing very well despite the fact that you are shooting quite abit of lights in.
I also feel that the bioload is a little high. It makes the tank looks a little crowded too.

IMO, the tank loosk great if there are only max 10pcs of cardinal tetras only with some shrimps
and i guess your 'trunk' lost it's shape due to the moss selection.. perhaps a more compact looking moss would show the shape of your nice wood more! eg, christmas moss
