    Hi bro evolution,

Did you happen to spot malayan shrimp in 50 pack there? Needed some to fight the algea. Thanks.

Malayan shrimps spotted last week i think, when i was looking for them. Ive only introduce 1 to my 1ft but it jumped out of the tank and died the following week. Guess he didnt like the algae cleaning job and decide to resign.

Thanks Bro Evo, I'll drop by C328. Been doing direct syringe application of excel to BBA and have tried yamato and SAE but still not effective. So need to try other option like malayan shrimp. Whether effective or not, it will still add some interesting new life into the tank I guess

    Bro Torque6,
The loan one jumped out maybe it is too lonely and in search of companion hahaha... add a few to spice up the tank, at least will get to see some shrimp moving (else always hidding)

Man Torque you made me LAUGH OUT LOUD!

I don't think 1 malaysian shrimp for a 1 foot tank is enough. Try to get like 20 or so. I think they also feel more comfortable in groups. On a side note, FYI, they won't eliminate the problem, they will just keep it under control. So don't take them out after it looks like your tank is clean. From what I've noticed, they kinda just give a 'hair cut' to the hair algea so to speak.

i doubt malayan would eat live BBA, maybe red and dead ones after you spray them with excel.

Normally those packets at the shrimp tank are green oto. That time when I asked uncle for tiger oto, he pointed to the shrimp tank. After browsing, I told auntie that I wanted to get only 2 pcs of tiger oto and she looked at me with a puzzled look. She confirmed that they are green oto and not tiger oto.

On Christmas, I got 3pcs of tiger oto from there and they are in CRS tank.

Thanks for the information. Just got 3 pcs back for testing. Hope this batch is more stable since I lost all 6 pcs from last batch in one over week.

maybe so. but 20 malayans for 1 ft will overload my tank. The best approach is still to manage water parameters better.

True enough. Is the tank still in the cycling phase? Maybe after it cycles properly you can add more.

Reason I ask is I have a 1.5 foot tank, running with a sponge filter. Its been running for a few months now and recently had a hair algea problem. About 2 weeks ago I bought a bag of 50 malaysian shrimp to finally eradicate the problem. I too was worried they would crash the system but it's managed to stay stable. Most of the hair algea is gone too! There were some malaysian shrimp casualties too, but this may have been to the low ph of my tank (around ph 5 or less). Other than that the tank and all its inhabitants AND the new malaysian shrimps look stable.

Other animals in the same tank: 6 orange shrimp, 20 boraras brigittae, 6 betta uberis, 6 zebra otto, 1 hillstream loach, 5 weizimanis tetra. I know it sounds terribly overstocked but parameters all check out, no smell and fish are all healthy . I think regular water changes every 2 weeks are key.

    ZANE.
