H, I'm thinking of setting up a new 3 ft tank planted tank to keep Nandopsis salvini. To simplify maintenance, I intend to use trickle filter (American called that wet/dry filter). Has anyone used that for planted tank with positive results? Please share your experience.

Hmmm pretty big fish... here is george's webby which vinz mentioned.
I think the biggest concerns most people have with trickle filters is CO2 loss due to splashing and such... if you can minimize this, then most of your problems are solved.

Thanks Allen and Vincent, I have read George's information, thats why I'm thinking of using a trickle filter for my new planted tank. However I hope to hear the comments from any local hobbyist who tried it, so I can learn more.
Any idea who can construct a trickle filter or currently selling it in the market?
Is the trickle filter (wet/dry) the open type or those enclosed type (Eheim 2229)? Enclosed type shouldn't be anyproblem except if you using a reactor to difuse CO2.
Sherwin, I'm looking at the normal trickle filter with a sump. Main reasons behind this are the ease of maintenance and cheaper setup costs. I'm willing to overlook the CO2 loss since the cost saving from buying a cannister filter can go to a bigger CO2 tank.
I think Vican has a setup using EOS system. CO2 loss is definate. That's why his injection is around 5bps.
Err... what is EOS?
EOS = External Overflow Sump
Or could it be Vican is using IOS = Internal overflow sump.... can't remember exactly.
Vican's is IOS.
