Filter for my new 2 ft.

Hi,

I bought a new 2ft tank, which filter is best for it? I need it to clean and also create air for my tank.

After going through some threads, think Eheim classic is the best for me, as i ask because i don't want to waste money and get things that will be replaced soon.

actually it really depends on what you are keeping in the tank, plants? fish alone. If you are just keeping fishes, then there are more cost effective filters then cannisters.

Been reading a lot here and really, the more i read, the more blur i am. Some mention CO2 BPS thing...... and another got mention nitrates......i was like...... so many things to care of..... so instead reading more, i ask.

Now, if can get the classic, will it solve the air and cleaning of water??? The droplet from classic i believe will generate air when it hits the water.

Besides, been reading books, so will buy another 3 x clown loach, as my 2 in the tank need more same species. Need a shoal of 5 to make them happy.

My advice to newbie, please do read about the fished you want to keep, and understand their nature, soft or hard water etc, so that they will be happy.

Some need salt, some don't, some need blackish water to survive.

I am a newbie, so learning a lot the hard way. Seriously, need to know more about what you intend to get better. So read more, but too many jargons which causes the blur.

Basically all filters in the market works in filtering your tank water. cannisters are being prefered by planted tanks because of the huge amount of media that you could have inorder to cultivate bacteria. hangon filter works as well if you get a big enough one but most of the time not preferred because of the fear of loss in CO2, so if you are not planting and have only fish, the waterfall effect is good for generating gas exchange between the water and the air, and its cheap and easy to maintain. And of course you have the over head filter made so famous by the Luo Han fish, it gives good filtration and ease of maintenanace, and of course cheap also. And the classic internal filter, which only complain really is the mess it crestes when cleaning and also the space it takes up in the tank, and to get a really good one will cost you a bomb.

When donig planted tank, never introduce oxygen from external source, the plants should be the ones providing the oxygen.

Yes, now have 2 x 2ft tank, so got a atman HOF, $18 and quite good.

I bought it at POLYART.

It will very much depend on your livestock and their optimal living environment. Cannister filter might allow better biological filteration with its bigger container volume( more space for media) and also will prevent less splash that caused co2 loss.

Furthermore,it don't require any additional powerhead(more heat produced).

Be careful about the clown loaches . They can grow quite big, and 2ft might not be enough for 5 of them.

By the way, I use an Eheim Pro II with my 2ft. No need to worry about changing to a new filter for a substantial period of time.

Previously I was using my old 4ft filter (JET 3388, been using for more than 3 years) for my 2ft, due to the flow rate too high, I've reduce the valve to half and I think because of that the pressure gets too high and cause some leaking. Just got myself a brand new Eheim Classic 2213, works perfect!
