I've seen my killer snails eating malayan shrimp of varying sizes (Juveniles to adults) over the last week in my 2 ft tank.

I have not been able to determine if the shrimp were dead or if the snails killed them. Its kinda cute watching the snail "hug" the shrimp, but a little concerning at the same time.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

In my 3 foot tank (which is at a constant 30C) I've seen Yamatos eating two of my killer snails, I'm assuming they were dead before the shrimp mangling but I am sure they were just fine the night before.

Do I have evil Yamatos and Snails?

This is in all quite puzzling.

From my experience, YES yamatos can go for snails! I saw my yamato rip out a small pond snail from it's shell and eat it.

I have heard of Yamatos eating snails but never seen them doing so. I don't mind if they did snack on some pond snails, maybe if they were Really hungry!

The killer snails seem to eat very slow moving critters, and dead or leftover food. I think they could snack on a young shrimp, if the shrimp did not move. It is like getting run over by a steam roller if you don't see it coming you will get run over 5 minutes later. Really, they are very slow, I have seen many pond snails get away since they are faster than the KS.
It might be a good idea to take that snail out of your shrimp tank though, maybe the shrimp don't realize the snail is dangerous (until it is too late!)

Fish eggs and fry are likely at risk too. However, it has no interest in adult shrimp, algae or plants. Therefore, your adult dwarf shrimps (cherry shrimp, CRS and the likes) should be safe.

Can I ask folks who are keeping Anentome helena, what do you feed it once all / most of the snails in your tank has been eliminated?

Yeah mine seem to enjoy eating the shirakura CRS food and GEX CRS tablets that I feed my shrimp.

I recently caught my Anentome Helena eating a full grown Grade A CRS, needless to say I've now removed them from my CRS tank.

They were put in initially to clear up a ramshorn infestation. Some plants I bought from forumers had eggs in them. They don't eat many ramshorns, especially the small one.

They will Eat any pond snails that cross their paths though, and these are some of the fastest moving snails I've seen. mine are ravenous beasts when it comes to pond snails.

I keep mine with RCS. Never has any problem with them eating my shrimps. Only seen them clearing the carasses on the floor.

All my tanks are MTS free ever since I started keeping anentome helenas. They are really my plant's life saver.

Why do you say they are plants' life saver? As far as I know, Malayan trumpet snails don't eat live plants too.

Yeah I've never heard of MTS eating living plants. They do multiply at an extraordinarily alarming rate though.

    Opps... Mistaken identity all along.
Went to google and searched for the type of snail in my aquarium and realised those that infested my aquarium were pond snails.

They are cute snails, but I won't ever put them into a shrimp tank again, hehe.

So far my assassin snails leave the shrimps / shrimplets alone. They only go for pest snails, planaria, hydra and the occassional algae wafer.

That's interesting. I'm at war with planaria at the moment and wondering what's out there that will eat them but leave my shrimplets alone.

Have you seen them eat planaria? Thanks

Yes i have. But it was more of a chance crossing of path betweens them i guess. I'm not sure if the assassin snail is actually hunting for planarias the way they seek out ramhorn snails.

    Hope the info helps.

Another interesting point to note is the assassin snail seems to leave horned nerite and zebra nerite snails alone? Only going for ramshorn snails.. i'm not sure whats the reason though. Can someone clarify?

Was it a size issue? they usually only go for larger snails, leaving the smaller ones, Ramshorns in my case, alone.

In my case, both nerite and assassin snails are around the same size.
