Finally decided to set up a tank in my office.

Newbie tank... think my plants will start dying soon? Any recommendation on what medium to use beside the black sand?

    Thanks!!

For the stem plant at the lefthand foreground (I believe its Luwigia repens), my suggestion is to move it to the background or take it out completely as it is such a fast and tall grower. Altough I believe you do not have any base fert so it might not grow as fast as it possibly could

do you dosse fertelizer? how many watt is your light?

If I'm not mistaken, you are using black quart, that is not really suitable for planted tank.

Nice, but I'll prefer the HOF at the back of the tank so that it looks neater. Wish to set something like that in the office but I guess with air con temperature going as low as 18 degC sometimes, don't think some of the tropic plants and fishes will survive.

    Thanks for all the comments!

I have rescaped the tank and added soil and some granite pieces.

Now thinking of adding CO2. Will it be an overkill for such a small tank? (1ft)

zoombee: yes these air bubbles are coming from an air pump. I thinking of putting CO2 soon, so guess would have to control the usage of the air pump after the addition of CO2 to prevent conflict

Very nice setup but beware and control the little red thing (trumpet snail) before it grows into a colony

the little red snail doesn't look like a trumpet snail, looks more like a red ramshorn. but a bigger photo should give a more accurate ID
