Wood shrimps feed on microscopic stuff in the water. You'll often find them perched near the filter outlet waving their feather like arms in the current.
They do not have claws or pincers to catch food, just those feathery arms... so they are pretty safe to keep in a community tank. You could say they are the whale shark of fresh water shrimps.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
I always worry that the wood shrimp would not get enough food from filtering the water. And I don't have any gravel surface for them to sweep as it is completely covered by HG.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Dun worry....
I have 4 of them in my 2 footer and they love to hang out in front of the power filter outflow... where they probably get all their food washed towards them... But I've also seen them on the sand bed where they start picking up small bits to munch on...

pipsqueak i was also worried that they might eat up my other shrimps cause the ones i bought are HUGE.. but he told me the woood shrimp dont have pincers so no worries..
and also my wood shrimp only likes to come out after lights off.. the moment i on the room lights... it runs back to its usual hiding place.. quite cute[]
haha, same here, my tank inhabitants, esp the kuhlis always go crazy at the slightest hint of light.. already turn the hood upside down and turn it on but they still panic..
hmm, i'll prob get some next time, when i redo my tank..any other places that sell smaller wood shrimps? the ones at tiong bahru is toooo big...
