try washing yr white filter media or replacing it or adding more
Hi all,
Need your advice. Just replanted my tank by adding fert soil and covering with sand. Bought some middle range plants from Ah pek. So far, most of the plants are growing, only one type start to rot and completely disappear. Why, not sure the name?
Also have hair grass, seems not growing, turned brownish.
Worse is that my tank is very dirty even after changing half of tank water 1 week after the planting. A Lot of brownish residue covering the leaves . Please advice.

To minimise on rotting material, take a few minutes everyday to clear any dead plant material, floating leaves, etc.
If the brown residue is loose debris that clings to your plants (i.e. not brown algae) remove it by:
1. Actively seeking and vacuum out the brown stuff when you change water.
2. Placing a spare internal filter into the tank and run it for a day or two. Occassionaly fan the plants and the substrate with your hands to stir up the debris into the water. You may have to check the filter every few hours to unclog the intake vents. Also try to place in a strategic location so that the it will suck up as much as possible.
