Dunno if root monster is back on the market. Alternative is ISTA brand.

The are many kind of Jobe sticks. Get the one for palms and ferns or something like that. Those have low P (phosphorus). Do not get the ones for aqautic plants... those have too much P. You can Jobes from plant shops. Far East Plant Nursery at Thomson Rd used to have, but not sure if they still sell after the fire on CNY eve. You can try their Queensway outlet.

Before you start sticking Jobes into your substrate... read this.

They grow too slow to see much effect...plus the fact they are sensitive to changes in water conditions.

peter, so far my crypts have been adapting to the somewhat extreme conditions in my tank. i do water changes on an irregular basis and they're still growing. in this case more taller and the leaves are turning green. even those that i left in their pots are turning out roots everywhere and they're practically running right into the gravel. i'm setting up a moss wall during the holiday break cos i'm on leave and i'll be redecorating my tank. i'm thinking of using the sticks to make the crypts spread towards it. and my lotus seems to need some extra fert. leaves are melting so i'm thinking if by adding the sticks, would it somehow reverse the melting of the lotus.

vinz, are u referring to the ISTA laterite balls? i've been looking for the JBL 7-Balls thingy but so far no luck. even the root monsters are not available on the market. i've not seen any for sale almost anywhere for the past few months. now i'm thinking of trying out Sera's Florenette A or those Tetra Sticks.

Not laterite balls. ISTA has something that looks like the root monster plugs.
