Got almost everything secondhand to try my hands on plant scaping. Added the rocks after tired of a total green setup after a month. Non-CO2, very basic setup.
Update 19/01/09 - went on a project of transferring the 1ft setup into a new wider 1.5ft ocean free tank.

Hi Bro... my newbie opinion. Very nice!Rock placement is nice. My humble Iwagumi comment though, maybe the angle of the big rock should be angled towards the left instead of the right?
Also, note that you've had the tank for more than a month. Do I detect greenish water? You've got algae in your tank?
Suggestion: add foreground plant like glosso, HC or hairgrass. Remove those stem plan at the front-right. You can either big stone on the center or move the stone on the left closer to the right. Might want to rotate rock on the right per craftman suggestion.
What tall plant is that on the back-left? you need to trim it

I think you're probably right on the algae bit. not sure how to clean up the algae in the water. Currently, besides making the water kinda greeny and cloudy, they're also forming patches of algae on the glass.
Any advice to help clean up the tank of algae?

Am thinking of using hairgrass, but the thought that it will probably outgrow the rocks really scares me. since no CO2, chances are the grass will probably grow scrawny. Hence my decision to keep it simple at the foreground.
Plants on the rear is actually hydrilla and some plant that with fire-spreading looking leaves. I do trim these once in a while. It looks overgrown due to the floating plant on the surface of the tank. (don't know what its called cos its given to me by a friendly LFS. Thought its good for shrimps to hide and feed)
Being a 1ftcube tank, its actually kinda small to push the large rock piece into the centre. I'm contemplating converting to a 1.5/2/3ft tank soon. Of course, the scape will probably be moved over too.
Began the process of transferring present setup into a 1.5 ft scape. Idea is to save some space on the table (Ocean Free depth is only..15cm?) and gain some width.
Pls feel free to comment.
Being a table setup and size constraints, Ocean Free 1.5ft is the ideal choice.
Longer by 0.5 feet (15cm), has a better view than 1ft cube. However, less depth, so try to achieve Iwagumi effect.

Removed the 200++ cherries & some CRS and plants, then drained water from old tank, transferred substrate and some GEX pebbles into new tank. Also topped up the GEX with some Azoo pebbles.
Slanting it a little to enhance the view. 400l/hr pump reused.
Wished to achieve similar layout from 1ft cube, with some improvements. Added some smaller rocks to "point to" the centerpiece.
Another view of the rocks. Placement of the rocks so much time!!!! 2hrs.
Topped up with mature tank water from 1ft cube (70%) and fresh tap water (30%). Lots of silt resulting in cloudy look. Now its time to wait and see how it will turn out.

Finally have time to do an update on the landscape. Silt has settled, leaving a clean scape of mainly rocks.

Yes, I have the intention to plant more Riccia (tied to rocks) as a foreground plant, HG will be added in the near future around these rocks + Vivipara at the rear to accentuate the depth.

Your rock scape is so nice. Glosso, HC, HG as foreground will be better. You can try moss as foreground too. Riccia overgrow so fast that you will get sick of them.
Forget about stem plants. They make rockscapes feel out of place.

Nice hardscape, E.vivipara might be too tall for this tank.
Nice hard scape, though i would have prefered a densely planted tank instead of sparingly planted one. In time, there will be issues with algae.
Many thanks for the very constructive comments.. Have just taken the plunge to invest in some nice looking tenelus for the rear and jap hairgrass for the mid-foreground. Project is underway, will post pics when its done.
Hope to get this out by CNY.
Re-arranged the rocks and added Tenelus+HG into the mix. LFS owner was nice enough to throw in the longer looking grass as backdrop. Right rock tied with riccia is small experiment to see if I can set up a nice riccia growth.
What do you think of the present arrangement?

Nice arrangement! Try pushing the left group slightly to the right a bit.
You'll have to keep the plants in check often otherwise they'll devour up the rock arrangement.
