Best way to Quarantine the new fishes

Need people to share on best way to Quarantine new fishes before introduction to the main tank.

Have brought 2 batches of fishes from Gan and both batches have killed my other fishes due to white spots

For chemical used to Q the tank, p/s also advice on where to get them. Thks in advance for the help

Many people don't have the luxury of a Quarantine tank or did not bother to have one as it must be running all the time even when no new fishes are introduced (Cycling of tank occurs if you just start your quarantine tank whenever new fishes are introduced...stress them more than to dump them into your main established tank.)

If possible, try to have the lfs or fish farm quarantine your fish for 2 weeks to see if they have any illness or symptoms if you are really serious..no need to add whatever stuff..just regulator water changes. Basically, most of us don't bother...

No medications needed unless your new fishes are showing symptoms of disease. For white spots, commonly we use aquarium salt (1 tablespoon per 20 gallon of water)

it should be 1 tablespoon to 20 litres of water to treat whitespot.

with regards to your white spot problem, there could be 2 ways of looking at it...

1) your fish which you bought have ICH
2) your fish in the tank have ICH.

When you introduce fish into your tank, this causes stress... for the new fish, its the stress of a new envrionment, for the old fish, it could be the stress of new tankmates (which are possibly incompaitble) and also the stress of more crowding. If this stress is too much, it could lead to an outbreak of ICH...

New fishes - 2 weeks
Feeders - 1 week

The above are my own personal views which I have been adopting. Depending on several factors as well... if you choose a fish from a tank at the LFS, have a quick glace and be able to identify if any of the tank occupants have white spot on their body.

Often, due to space constraint, LFS will likely to use partition to separate 2 kinds of fish...eg in 1 tank divided into 2 could have guppy and neons on each side of the partition.

With the above setup at LFS, be sure to spot any "signs" that could possibly wiped out our already established aquarium at home.
