    Hi all,
I have a dehumidifier in my guitar cabinet which draws out about 500ml of water every week. I'm thinking of using this water for my fishes. Has anyone done that before? Wonder if this water is "clean"?
    Any advice?

    Interesting....as that's distilled water technically

Not good to use that long term as it'll super dilute your tank water and deplete trace minerals in it.
Also, how clean's your dehumidifier? I have a few at work and they're often overgrown with a layer of reddish biofilm

i think it is best for you to try it out yourself, since it is free anyway. use an experimental tank. My guess is it is best to replenish the evaporated water with the water you have collected. let us know the results

Dehumidifier is very clean. Its in my guitar cabinet, so very clean. I have already started adding it to my aged water. So far, ok....

Thats a very interesting proposition. I'll wait for the tank to fill up, do a couple of tests on it to find out PH, etc, and probably put in a guppy fry in it to see if all is ok. Will update in another thread.

Usually, adding it to a tank already filled with water is fine. But using it purely to keep fishes may be a risk. Let's see how your experiment turn out. Keep us posted.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

If it is truely that clean, then it'll be good for times when you need to dilute a tank's water that's gotten too hard or too acidic, esp if your tap water is not soft or neutral "enough"

I had actually proposed using distilled water before...but as correctly pointed out, its not for regular use

Have you even try to search in some online services like house development, maybe little information like this. In particular, never set up water drainage or disposal near electrical circuits or devices. Make sure the dehumidifier is connected to a properly grounded.
