    Thx simon.

They seem like they have character. Have read some interesting write-ups on their behaviour, including gulping down smaller fish (including otos).

Dat was actually my other question...wat tank size they need. I'm planning for a 4 feet tank now (prob 3rd quarter 2002) . COnsidering the fish & plants dat i can have in the tank.

So where do those dat r normally found at lfs come fr? Venezuela?

U know wat other fish they (Altums) can live wif? How abt dwarf cichlids? I'm thinking of a few dwarf cichlids (a ram, agassizi, etc), lots of tetras (neons, gold, etc), a school of corys, & a few altums. Wat do u think?

    Also looking around for plants...

    Ciao...Nizz

PS: Simon...u seem to be always online...u on cable or something?

regarding your question on one of my fav fishes []

u r rite abt the character part.. they gulp anything that they can fit into their mouth.. i mean anything

my altums loves 60 yamato, a few cardinal, 15 pencilfish, wipe out all 30 diamond tetra

best tank size is bigger is better... height is the most imprt aspect

While we are on this topic... I was wondering what was the difference between
the normal angel and the altum which made the price difference...

Any answers on the above and will altums munch on plants also??

Saw ur altum pics earlier in the day...very nice.

Also read somewhere on the net...abt altums feeding on other fish...it was said dat depending on who came first (in the tank). If the smaller fish were already there when the altums were introduced, then they wldn't bother the smaller fish...wonder how true this is. Maybe this thread shld be moved to cichlids section huh?

Cld its value also come fr the fact dat it's diff to breed them in captivity?

    hi gchoo

the difference between the scalare and altum are pretty obvious..the first thing is the mouth part. the scalare has it straight to its head while the altum is concaved upwards giving its regal appearence...next is the body the scalare is more elongated while the altum is more rounded like a disc...last is the dosal and anal fin the scalare is more angular while the altum is almost at 180 degree straight up.

    hi nizz

whether it feeds on smaller fish is very unpredictable as to which ones as well. the altums i have cleared all my emperor and left my rummynose alone
