Ya truth, buy a good Expensive 'Eheim' which last for years, after using for many years, wear and tear, then buy spare parts (not cheap as well), carry on using it. But remenber, you are still using the old 'Eheim'. This time the O-ring spoil, replace, how about after few months? MOto spoil? leaking? or other problem? then need to buy spare parts again and yet cost another bomb.

Why don't buy a cheap one (etc, Dolphin, Atam) then use for 2 yrs, 3 yrs? who know if you are lucky, you might use up to 4, 5 years. If you are so unlucky, it spoil in 2 years or 1 years plus, then get yourself a brand new one (Try to buy the same model). Keep the spoil set as spart parts (canister tank, O-ring etc.) then if the new cheap canister spoil again then you will still at least already have the spart parts which does not cost any.

Thanks Viper007, I'm 100% agree with you . Since you've mentioned it, will a 1000l/hr flow canister be good for my scape tank? I mean too strong. I'll be adding on an external reactor later.

For 120 bucks, you can actually add another 10 bucks to your budget and get an eheim classic 2217 which has a flow rate of 1000 l per hour.

You can also get a Atman for about 80 bucks.

as for the issue of reliability, you really have to decide for yourself if you want to pay more for reliability.

Let's say a Dolphin cost $90/- and used for 2 yrs or 21/2 yrs, then u buy a 'new' one with about same price, (so that mean every 2 to 2 1/2yrs cost u $90) and Eheim cos few hundres but last longer but need to buy spare part which cost alots more but it still consider old set no matter how new the spare part is.
Hi newtank & psp1000. Thanks a lot for you ideas. All of you have really helped me made up my mind, just get a brand with it's spare easily available and cheap....right,guys?

Actually it depends on your tank size and what you add into the system. For a 2ft tank 1000l/hr is overkill but if you have a chiller, UV and reactor then is ok. For a 3ft tank1000l/hr is just right.

I think it all depends on how you position your outlet. Using 1000l/hr for my 2ft and when i position my rainbar about 2 inches below the surface and point it up, the current in my tank is nonexistent.

Also the actual flow rate will be far from 1000l/hr, especially if you fill up all the trays with filter media.

Typically it will lost 30% of its flowrate after fill in media, 1000 l/hr will become 700l/hr.

I have 2217 from colleague, been running since 1995, only change the O-ring because I saw it crack. The original eheim O-ring cost me less than $10. I believe it worth all the money. Just imagine running continuously for 13-14 years.

On the other hand I also had Jebo 809, leaking within a year luckily I'm around when it leak. Order o-ring from petmart cost me $13 fix it up and still leaking . Half or even third the price of eheim but my personal opinion not worthed. I guess I got what I paid for

I do heard people complain eheim quality is dropping, no idea how true. I have 2217 (oldest), 2215 (old), 2213 (new) and recently purchase 2211 (new) all running fine.

Noted. By the way, since you've mentioned about outlet position, i've read on forum that it depend on the plants location in tank. Is that right? Outlet and inlet should it be same corner or one corner each?
