I was reading the article at Aqua Journal online on lighting periode. Interesting part is stem plants tend to grow leggy if lighting periode is shorter than 8 hours. Does it mean siesta will make your stem plant grow leggy?
Also if the light exceeding 10 hours, algae tend to multiply and plant stop photosynthesizing even when the light is still on. This is interesting, does anyone notice the plant stop creating O2 buble after 10 hours of lighting?![]()
Quote from Aqua Jounal:
The light period of 8 to 10 hours per day is considered optimum for Nature Aquarium empirically. If the lighting period is shorter than this, aquatic plants don’t grow well or stem plants tend to get leggy. On the other hand, if it exceeds 10 hours, algae tend to multiply or aquatic plants stop photosynthesizing even when the light is still turned on. Aquatic plants generally grow well if the light is turned on regularly every day during the daytime hours. An irregular light period can affect their condition adversely.

I concur but I don't notice the photosynthesis stop observation maybe because of the rather high flow in my tank.
Leggy stems from short photoperiod provided you are using enough light. Even reduction in redness for red plants. My PP is only 6 hours for tanks I'm trying to maintain the scape. Not too much growth of stem plants. But once I put in stem plants I have to maintain 8-10 hours to keep it bushy and compact.[mostly rotalas]
