issit possible usin plant sand to grow hc???
in my opinion no difference to me whether emersed or submersed. planted HC on 1st May 09 in a newly setup tank...took >1 month to achieve a decent carpet.
you will need invest in good substrate (preferably aquasoil) - top layer should be fine soil; CO2; good lighting (~2.5-3wpg? tanks with depth 2ft or more will have a greater challenge growing HC); clean water (best if your's a matured tank where BB already well colonised); fertilise it - NPK+excel; some patience & tender loving care.
you should not add any fish or shrimps - preferably - but wait till the HC roots have least grounded +/- 1 month...this also gives time for tank to mature and BBA to colonise. Good luck!

Hi all,
I chanced upon this thread and I'm going to try to grow my new tank with HC. But will has anyone tried this method for hairgrass as well?
Cheers.
*Edit: Nevermind! I finished reading the rest of the article by Barr, and at the end they did grow Hair grass emersed with much success. =)
