Hi bro, need advise.. bought a 1/3 hp Arctica chiller to use with Eheim 2080 filter.

According to Arctica website, the flow rate for the chiller should be min/max of 480-2400 gph (1816 - 9084 lph) and 2080 is rated at around 1207 litre per hour with media (without media 1700 l/ph). Does this mean that I have to use another pump before the chiller to increase the flow rate to above 1816 lph for efficient cooling?

Anyone using 1/3 HP Arctica chiller with Eheim 2080 filter?

i used 2028 to drive the chiller previously. worked ok.
i think flowrate of 2080 will suffice.
best option is to get a dedicated pump for it with the inlet covered with a prefilter to prevent debris from going into the chiller. no harm having more circulation for a big tank anyway.

Thanks bro but a prefilter might not effectively retain those smaller dirts like soil particles etc and futher requires cleaning frequently to prevent clogging.

I agree with Mordrake said. Your inlet can raise at mid level, this you will have less chance of getting the soil in. And prefilter is good for easy maintenance and using external pump you get to maintain the water temperature constantly and provide you with another good circulation flow.

Appreciate all the advise and I just checked with Mr Chan from NA and he said there should be no issue with using the chiller with 2080 filter and chiller manufacturers tend to rate the flow rate for chiller a bit higher. I'll stick with the lazy method of connecting my chiller to the filter directly first and see how things goes.
