oldmantan - i've read that good water flow around the plant is vital in those who have succeeded in growing it. I hope one day to try this plant.

    wish me luck.
wow, this is nice! first time i see something like that. burying the rock is definating easier than planting the plantlets... not to mention sorting, cleanig etc... (Your UG growth is doing Richard a lot of justice, maybe you should send him a pic so that he can show his customers... )
Thanks oldmantan! Do keep us updated on your tank. It looks fabulous, your Blaxya and Rotala looks so yummy! Will look even better when the moss on the left fills up.

    thanks for the comments bros.

one thing i forgot to mention is that after i realised they have started growing, i had removed a few strands from the rock and planted them separately. it works too. planted them the same way i would for glossostima.

hope it forms a whole lawn for all of u too.

    cheers

Oldmantan, how did you plant the other few strands? directly into the gravel/sand as well? any picture showing how you planted the few strands is much appreciated.

Re: Utricularia sp or chendol grass

    Hi Ian

Yes i planted straight into sand. Sorry no pics cause those that i have planted directly into the sand have already grown and merged with the main batch stemming from the rock.

i planted it like how we would normally do glossos. i.e. plant from one end of the strand and drag it in the gravel until the other end is submerged. hope this helps. maybe the pros following this thread can help with some illustration.

No wonder my last try failed, I left it with the wool and place them on the gravel, it just melt away. Will have another go in the near furture. Will pull the HC into the sand and see if it works. Thanks.

understand that if plants like MM, HC and Utricularia sp melts, it is due to water hardness. try adding some sodium bicarbonate (can get from the supermarket).

not sure how much, i throw in a pinch and it works for the MM in my 3 ft tank.

Re: Utricularia sp or chendol grass

That would be stunning to have a tank that shallow allowing the UG to grow in clumps like that on the surface. I might try something as basic as this at some point.

Re: Utricularia sp or chendol grass

    Hi,
an update on the utricularias in my tank.

they have covered the entie floor of the tank, and have spread to other areas. in fact, i had trimmed the plants just 3 weeks back, and now it's grown back.

i supplement with flourish excel as i realised that some of the nana leaves are turning yellow, probably due to the utricularis.

some pics for your viewing. pardon th epoor quality pics, taken from mobile. cheers.

    Wow, I'm inspired!

Any hopes of growing this in a low tech?
    KH: 2DKH
    pH: 6.7
    26°C cool water temp.
    2WPG lighting
Lapis substrate that is over 5 years old so lots of detritus buried,
Strong water movement (in front of filter output)

    No CO2
    Occassional KNO3 when I see N shortage,
Occasional PO4, Mg and trace at bi monthly water change.
    Warm regards,

    Lawrence Lee

May I know how you trim it? Just use scissors and cut?

yes trim using scissors. take note not too let the plant grow too dense if you do not want the plant to be tall. else by the time trim them the undergrowth will be exposed.

    Hi oldmantan,
Very beautiful UG you have there. I'm hoping to do the same in my bigger tank soon. Nonetheless, hope I can share my UG also which I have kept for more than 6months already. It's a 1ft tank with 13w lights. Fert dosing only in the initial phase but have not been dosing anything for a few months already. Using a hang on filter. Therefore kinda low maintainance.
I have actually planted some in my 3ft tank with temp of 27-28deg and so far so good.
Dun mind the little gap in front as I have trimmed some of it for a friend of mine.
