i'm setting up a moss wall using the plastic mesh method that timebomb showed me.
i'm redoing my 2ft tank (AGAIN)!
and i'd like to find out what u guys use for moss wall backdrops...
i'm using oceanfree styrofoam for my 4ft tank but its too thick for my 2ft tank cuz then there would be hardly any space left...
was thinking of hard wire mesh or soft plastic mesh...
i heard the soft plastic mesh is hard to mount on the back of the tank and the hard wire mesh is a death trap(from personal exp.)...
so what do u guys use and whats its pros and cons?
THANKS!![]()

hi ryan
i think soft plastic mesh with suction cap will do.
cos i am using those for my riccia wall. no die trap so far - more than 6mths. can see shrimps, otto swim in & out sometime.oso as a hiding place.
oh i see... ok thanks guys...
btw can u guys give me a quote of the price of your plastic mesh? and the size too?
plastic mesh is maximum a few dollars
if you get it from the hardware stores less than a dollar should do you fine for a 2ft tank
i used to have one that i cable-tied to the intake/output pipes to stabilise
looked good
but trapped a lot of dirt
and bba tends to grow underneath
where the circulation doesn't go
so
you might want to reconsider doing one
yeah i know therez alot of **** and all that gets stuck but its just damn nice lah the moss wall...
care to elaborate how it was attached?
thanks man...![]()
read from somewhere, simply cut the mesh to the size u want (2 pcs) & spred the moss thinly on the mesh & sandwich it. can either either sewing thread(green) or fish line to secure it.
place a few suction cap to hold on to wall.
Understood tt moss grow slow - probably a few months than can c nice result.
*i have not try on moss wall yet cos when i got the time to do, moss not available. currerntly only has X'mas moss on driftwood

Serangoon north, one of the shop is selling styrofoam back drop for $10 black color, Petmart 2 pcs for $15 1 for $10 but metallic silver in color which i do not like, doesn't look natural. All are 2ft lehgth by 1.5ft tall
the mesh costs about $16+ for a 2m x 1m roll. it comes with cable ties in the roll itself. look inside. the next largest size would be 3m x ?m roll. that costs about $31+. i've been to many DIY shops and it seems that the price is fixed. well the 2m x 1m roll will suffice for a 3footer. use suction cups with open-end clips to attach the mesh to the aquarium wall. u basically push one of the clips through one of the mesh's holes and u'll get a holding position with the clip. just make sure the clip doesn't drop off the suction cup if not you're gonna see the mesh drooping in the water.![]()
