    anyone knows what this is? Seems like it's used in marine rather than planted tank. Is it different from PL lights?

    this is a technical discussion of T5 lighting vs metal halides. Not in aquarium settings though. It's too technical for me, maybe some kind electrically gifted people out there can share the conclusion for aquariums?

    Another link. this is from General Electric. This press release was made in 2001. So I assume T5 is only 2 years old technology. not sure about the history of PL. Still trying to figure out if T5=PL.

    Anyway, T5 comes in 39W while I know PL comes in 36W. maybe they are different?

    They would appear to be physically the same built but not the same rating. There was a discission by Allen_1971 earlier. Try doing a search.
