nice... but maybe you can plant some moss on some parts of the ship and around the tray below the ship?

Yup, just started, thus need to let the plants grow to "cover up". Hairgrass and pella is at the bottom of the ship and moss is on the rock - cave.

Hi bro JT, Honestly I really admire you. Your tank should cost a bomb. Mind sharing how much you spend in total for the whole setup? Where did you get it from? I was looking for a similar one myself last year to function as a divider in my living room. Its not easy to get the fund, space & coorporation from your house OC. Well done , it should turn out great when mature. Wish I could do the same. Cheers....:-)

In fact no, I dont usually do thing or go for expensive stuffs. Most of my tank's material are mostly diy type or from nature.

As for the curve 4ft tank - Yup, I got it in a steal. I think it would cost about few thousand. I got is for about 700+ if I recall correctly(quite some time back already). It was bought in a fish fair at convention centre. It was a placement for order - thus, the cheap price. I think upon orders, he would import and then assembly and sell. I went to his warehouse to see the assembly (as the colour of the cabinet was different from what I order)

I have design my house with this tank as part of the design. Nice it may be, but in terms of fish tank set-up difficulty, this is more difficult than the conventional tanks - due to the viewing of both sides, you need to make viewing from all angles presentable (unlike normal tank where you have a background and viewing from "front" only)

The set-up (as it is not newly set-up, most of things were re-used or established already) - $100+ this round (ship = abt $50, the gravel = $40)

This tank is definitely different in concept... agree with bro Planted86 on adding some moss on your shipwreck to make it look more real.

Just a suggestion, if you can clear a small white sand path out from the ship. It will look nice when the surrounding hair grasses grow up. Then on the path you can put a "no fishing" sign or a sea anchor. (some freshwater clams also good)

May I ask why a tray was chosen as a base of the sunken ship? Makes the elevation and even with HG growth a little unnatural..The hair grass will grow.. will it totally cover the tray?

Just a suggestion - maybe can consider positioning the ship off-centre, to give it a ship-got-damaged-and-fell-into-the-sea without arrangement look. Also can use it as an anchor piece, add some smaller rocks around the sides to suggest the source of the "disaster".


If there are fish that resembles "sharks".. then the scene would be perfect!!!! haha..

Is there a risk of the substrate under the tray/ship becoming anaerobic?

As for the tray, as my tank is an all view tank, I need to create height/tier to have a better/greater visual effect. If you notice clear, the tank - CG(center of gravity or attraction) is the ship at the 3rd tier. A lower lever for all the crawlers plant, a 2nd tier for mid level plants and then the ship as the 3rd. This will draw focus on the ship. If it is all on the same plane/level, the plants will not be able to "shine out". Thus the tray to give the extra height. Soon, it will be covered by the tall grass and yes, some moss are planted on the ship - just that, from my previous experience with moss, it tends to overgrow very fast and cover up everything - I dont want to see a huge moss and cant see the ship...haha.

If you look at my profile and see my "teddy bear" fish tank/image, you will get what I mean. It started out as a tree with branches and moss on the branches.
