4 Tier 4 ft x 1.5ft x 1ft setup

I know that this has been discussed before, but I don't seem to be able to find a satisfactory conclusion to this yet.

I'm planning for a 4 tier 4ft x 1.5ft x 1ft tank stand, with 3 4ft tanks in the lower 3 tiers. I'm planning for a 2ft storage tank on the 4th tier.

I think the weight of this entire set will be round about 200kg per tank (with water), which adds up to round about 600kg for 3 tanks, and plus 70kg for the 2ft tank, and maybe another 50kg for the stand and other accessories.

This would be more than the 600kg per room stipulation by HDB.

I think I will need to get approval from HDB.

My question - Has anyone requested for permission from HDB? And if you did, was it successful or unsuccessful? Would like to hear your experience getting approval from HDB.

I'm planning (later on) to add another 4 tier stand side by side the original 4 ier stand. I wonder if HDB will be ok with that, and more importantly, will the floor be able to hold the weight of 2 stands? probably a total of 6 x 4ft tanks... by the way... does anyone living in a HDB flat have a tank set like what I am suggesting? Can share your experience?

With a setup like that I'm not even confident your stand will be able to handle the weight!

It will have to be a very well-engineered cabinet/rack/stand to withstand all that weight!

Seriously, I think a 2-tier would almost bust your limit so do consider using two 2-tier setups instead. Others calculated in excess of 500kg per tank.

Are you planning on water-only tanks? Or full planted setups for the lower 3 tanks?

Do write to HDB for approval first. Likely HDB will specifically tell you where to place your tanks and won't allow you to place them anywhere else, in order not to exceed the load rating for the floor.

Hmm... I'm getting more and more of the opinion to start small with maybe a 2 or 3 ft 2 tier setup at the most...

Not an engineer but what if you increase the length of the stand to say, 6ft long but keep the length of the tank the same at 4ft?

I don't think HDB will approve 4 tiers cos the pressure on the area would be ENORMUS!! IMHO it's best to go for 2 tier either 4ft or bigger tanks cos if you want 2 different setups within the same tank, you can still put a divider in the tank.

I second aquarius on his advice. I cannot imagine cleaning the top tank if there is algae bloom or snail infestation.

A ladder with safety harness will be required. Fish keeping should be a safe hobby. But i do admire the passion to get this setup in a high rise apartment.
