    Hey guys, this might be a dumb question to ask, but i was never good at science. What happens to the plants if your lights on 24 hrs? i heard they need time off to rest and respire as well.

    maybe u could try and see...
    what i think is your plants would slowly die away...

    it's like if humans is forced to stay awake for a few days nothing much will happen;
    but if forced to stay awake for a several weeks then he/she "might" die... never try before though...

    btw noticed this is your first post? Welcome to AQ !

    Your tank should not having daylight hitting it. 10 hours a day continous, no break in between.

    It's been discussed before whether turning on lights 24 hours will help plants. Not only does it not work, your fish need the day/night cycle too.

    Thanks spiffer!

    Yea, like what |squee| said...

    but imo I think the lighting duration is approximate though...
    I on my light about 16 hours a day... to grow more algae to feed my otos... u just need to tweak the duration to you and your plants liking... in my case, "to my algae's" liking...

    If you don't really want aglae, I read it in a article from dennerle that you should have a substantial break of say 4 hours in between your 10hrs of lighting. THis will break the cycle of the algae but this method is not widely believed in the circle of planted hobbyist.

    Just a newbie like you. Take it with a pinc of salt.

    Up your CO2 and remove the BBA manually... BBA has been seen as a problem due to inconsistent CO2 here in AQ...

    And based on past experience, getting CO2 fixed and manual removal of them prevented the spread...

    Just rotate the top layer into the lower half. (bury it alive... ). Check the CO2 using the pH/KH level as well as the delta difference between a degassed sample of the tank water pH and the current pH. (Target for a difference of 0.9-1.0...roughly 20-30ppm during the entire photoperiod except for the first 30-60min.).
