    Dear All,

My fishes, 4 neons 3 moon fish and 2 cories. They are not eating or just not eating in front of me. when the food reaches them they would go for it then spit it out.... They are still not suffering from malnutition... swimming and chasing.... playing...

The same food given to my 2 zebra danios.... they eat them with enthusiasm. Very strange. Any one can help me if i need to change food etc etc? Any cause for concern?

    Regards,
    Anthony

Are these fish new to the tank, if yes they will start taking food after some time.
What are your water parameters, if ammonia or nitrates are high, fish often refuse food.
BTW what is a moon fish, is it a mono http://www.tropical-fish-pictures.com/mono-angel.html
If yes, this is a brackish water fish not fresh water, and it will be incompatible with neons. As it grows you will have to give it a brackish envoirnment.

Haha, moon fish was the name told to me. It looks like a platy though nice orange and red color with black birth marks near the tail. buit only 3 has this black birth mark the other 2 (in another tank) dun have.

The fishes had been eating the food for about a 1-2 months then they start this.... But they looks healthy and chasing eat other around.... My cories used to like algae wafers but now they like to hide but yesterday they came out for a bite.

Spitting out after putting in their mouths.... maybe the food is not fresh anymore.... will be going to buy new food to see if there is any change.

    Weekly water change. 20% - 30%. PH is always 7 - 7.5 max

I think they are stress... Maybe make your water softer if possible (Ph 6 to 6.5).

You can consider feeding them ADA vitamix or Sera Fistamix... It may help.

The food size could be too big for them to eat, hence they take it into their mouths then spit it out. After a few such "spits", the food would probably disintigrate into smaller pieces, or they may have scraped off some food in the process, hence they eat and are not malnutritioned.

I've seen the same behaviour in cichlids

My sparkling gourami does the same. I thought it was just being naughty. It's cute to see it eat and spit. Then after a while, it will go back and eat the disintegrated pieces. Maybe the food is still hard, and it was trying to soften it first... hehe.
