    Dear folks ,

I have beem keeping Sulawesi shrimps and managed to breed 2 batches of fry from 2 females. The 1st spawn & 2nd are apart by 2 weeks and the frys are now approx 8mm and 5mm respectively and are doing well in the adult tank.

My shrimp has berried again and spawned yesterday! But this time all are lost !

    My question is :

Could it be the new born frys eaten by the growing up young shrimps ?

My mistake thinking that young shrimps and new born is not a problem ?

Has anyone experience breeding continuous ,multiple batches in the same tank ?

    Kindly comments .

Sulawesi shrimps breeding is a complete new venture for many hobbyist as they are wild.

As these young shrimplets are so small, it is difficult for us to monitor their behaviour, especially in tanks full of hiding places. So no one really knows what causes their disappearance acts.

Bro, can share how many pieces you started off with and what kinds of sula shrimp you keeping? Any deaths of those adult pieces when settled down in your place?

    Shrimp Breeding

    Hi ! Spid,

I started last Oct with 10 pcs of Cardinals or Matano shrimps. Currently left with 5 adults, 3 males and 2 very hardy females.

The 1st spawn produce around 6 , the 2nd spawn have approx 10 frys. The youngs are in orange & with dotted white spot.

All are stable, coping well and not so shy as their wild parent.

    Cheers !

    Keeping Sulawesi Shrimp

    Hi ! folks ,

Good new ! It not all lost for the 3rd spawning ! Found 1 tiny fry about 1/10 of my growing young shrimp sitting motionless on the DW.

Hope to find more ! But not sure if it can survie with many big bros around !

Have been feeding Red Shrimp pellets & also boild carrots , spinaches.

Using aged water soaked with coral chip measured around ph 8 and as i only own a digital ph pen and no other testing kits .

I had used a oversize strong submersive filter for filtration and finds that it improved the tank circulation ,the shrimps are cope well with the strong current , good o2and probably is the reason it thrieve.

It only less than 4 months keeping this shrimps, i am still learning and hope to share more.

    Cheers !

    Re: Continuous Breeding

Do you have other type of shrimps inside.
Shrimplets should be red with visible white dots.
Perhaps you can take a close up picture of the shrimplet.

    Re: Continuous Breeding

This is how my shrimplets look like.

I have never encounter an orange offspring.

Even when it's first born, you can see the white legs and the pincers. When lights are off, the colour might fade to a bluish transparent hue.

    Re: Continuous Breeding

I have a few tank set up for my sulawesi shrimps, basically most are the same, with inert gravel as substrate. Filter has coral chips in them to keep ph high. Mosses, and fast growing plants.

Algae comes naturally as long as there is enough light, my tank attract the brown type diatoms.

The shrimplet is around 1 month old.

    Talking Re: Continuous Breeding

    Hi ! Joy

It nice to have Sulawesi kakis here ! We can learn from each others and I have a suggestion probably we need to exchange shrimplets to broaden the pool of genes here !

Feel free to call & meet for coffee chat ! Those who are interested are welcome to join in !

    Cheers !
