In my opinion you should not. I understand puffer feeds on snails and if this food is limited or ran out in your tank then your shrimps could be next in line.
anyway I'm not sure if the water chemistry is the same for both species.

Is it okay to have a puffer in a shrimp tank ?
My shrimps were okay at 100% survival rate for past 2 weeks until recently after introducing one puffer into the tank, I started having fatalities for CRS and bumblebee shrimps. Mainly the smaller shrimps that died off.
Any input from you guys ?
My NANO101 tank :
3 x badi badi, 7 x cardinal tetra
2 x bumblebee shrimp, 3 x red nose shrimp
2 x malayan shrimp, 2 x cherry red shrimp
3 x sakura shrimp

Not recommended as they will become foodsource for the puffer!

Saw that you had badi badi in your shrimp tanks. Are they friendly towards the shrimps?
I'm trying to get some top/middle swimming fishes as the tank looks empty...
Current residents:
4 Otos
11 Galaxies
5 Mosquito Rasboras
2 Bamboo shrimps
~15 Sakura/Cherries
3 Sulawesi shrimps
You can try other fish such as hatchet which stay on top near the surface and could only eat floating food, this will help to keep your shrimps intact.Originally Posted by Navanod

fish usually will do no harm to the shrimp as they are too big for the fish.. but the usually worry is about the shrimplet.. most of the shrimp will eat them happily as they are very tiny when first born..
Plecofanatic, Coryfanatic and dwarf cichlids.
I have seen puffers pick up a corydora by the tail and then swimming off with the struggling corydoras...
With shrimps, they will in fact tear them apart...

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I've tried some glowlight tetra...they're not aggressive to other tank mates, but very greedy. 6 of them will hog almost all the food and one bit off the feeler of one of my shrimps by mistake (I caught him in the act!)
Now that 2 of the cherry females are berried, I've decided to give these tetras to my friend to avoid losing too many shrimplets.
Think I'll stick to my current setup and see what happens to the shrimplets
