+/- one degree different is normal, we do not need that accuracy anyway.
anyone knows why my 2 different thermometers are showing different temp? one shows 25.5 , the other shows 24.5
both are exactly the same , im using a GEX analog thermo by the way ( those with mecury in them )
so anyone can advise why the difference in temperature even though i place them in same place in the tank ??
which thermometer should i trust ?![]()

so which one should i take the reading from ? higher or lower ? real weird .
I think you are posting in the wrong section. Shouldn't you be posting under equipment.
Nothing weird about neither thermometers being calibrated.
There is a primary/secondary school experiment on calibrating glass thermometers isn't it?
ck
if you are raring CRS, take the higher one because I heard CRS like cold water
if for planted thank, either will do, plants is not that sensitive to water temperature those some moss do grow better in lower temp.
Its a probably $2 thermometer what you expect. I doubth even $10 digital thermometer was calibrated. If you want accurate thermometer, get the lab graded one
.
not meant to be a joke but the most accurate way to finding out a faulty thermometer is to test it against your body temperature (provided no fever). this could mean sticking both sensors into your throat and check which's closest to your body temperature.

I had issues with the Gex thermometer before. I placed 3 different brands of thermometers in the same tank. The Gex thermometer gave the highest reading, showing 2 degress higher. The other 2 thermometers showed almost the same reading, +-0.5 .
I even went to the extent of using a digital thermometer -those use for babies and kids. But had to slap my own head for trying it. It is only for human use.
Take Morgan01's advice. Just clean them nicely. Place them under your armpit - which should show around 36.7C-37.0C .
You can always seek a third opinion, just like seeking doctor's advice. Get a third thermometer and test it out.
how about try to measure ice? it should registered as 0 degree
