I just switched to cylinder setup for my tank over the weekend and i'm facing a weird prob :

I turned the knob c/w on my regulator (abt 5 deg) to give me 3 bubbles per second. When i took a look at the bubble counter in the evening (after work), it showed 1 bubble per second. The count dropped to zero by the next morning. What i then had to do was to close the regulator output by turning the same knob anti-c/w and turned it c/w again (abt 5 deg).

My setup looks like this :

    [CO2 tank]---[Regulator]---[1way valve]---[BubbleCounter]---[Airstone]

My intention is to set it to 2 bubbles per sec (I have a 2ft tank) and leave it running 24hrsx7days.

My friend is telling me that it could be dust buildup in the opening in my regulator since my opening is too small (only abt 5 deg) and i should turn it up more (20+ deg) and add a smaller / needle valve between the regulator and the 1way value. Can this work?

If not, what should i do next?

Generally most of us don't use our regulators for fine tuning the bubble count (unless it comes with some control built in like Dennerle's)... Usually we stick a needle valve in between to do the fine tuning.

Where can we find that needle valve?
    I had tried,
    1) Nature Aquarium (Thomson) - no stock
    2) Polyart (Clementi)- Don't know what it is
    3) C328was closed on the Sunday I went to Clementi
    4) Petmart (Serangoon North)- Don't sell
    5) Rainbow (Serangoon North)- Don't know what it is
    6) All other LFS selling plants in Serangoon North...
    7) Gan (LCK)

maybe they don't know that its called needle valve? just ask them for valves to regulate airflow, basically if they sell co2 stuff like regulators, gauge, etc they sure sell needle valve.

    FYI,

The correct term for the needle valve should be "Flow Control Valve"
    Cheers!!
