I think you should not release it into a reservoir. You might destroy the ecosystem as well as get fine.
my father just came back with a 2ft fish tank that was thrown away by the previous owner, left at the rubbish collection dump. i went out to look at the tank, to my horror, there are 4 of those parrot fishes inside ( blood parrots? no idea of the id) the tank was only filled with 5cm depth of water, they had to swim sideways just to wriggle around. just left there to die.
i understand that the fish tank can be thrown away anytime but this is not the way to dispose livestock. they could sell it off, release into a reservoir or something. such people should be fined or something!
PS. the fishes have been transferred to a 3ft tank. hopefully they will survive.

It is terrible what the owner did.
But Robert is right, releasing unwanted fishes into reservior is not a good option either.
Owner could have given them to his LFS which could then sell them off.

After Christmas and new year.. there were be more unwanted pets. It is not only happening to fishes..

hope they survive =/

Sell it? Yes
Release? No No no no no no noooooo no. Never never never release non-native species like guppies and cichlids(blood parrots included) into our local waterways, they're damaged enough as it is.
You can however let them go in ponds at community centers or schools.

Guess the reason why, maybe the parents of the owner of the 4 parrot fishes dumped the whole tank with livestocks due to owner's serious misconduct at home as a punishment.
Look at it, the tank had 1/4 water and 4 PF was easy to carry down and expected that any kind souls like Tango's dad will adopt them.
That is life always move on...
when theres any doubt, theres no doubt...

Can give the fish to LFS? Maybe they can resell.

well, maybe i shouldn't have mentioned reservoirs. my meaning was more of, releasing it on the sly is better than leave to let die. i seriously don't see the point of letting the fishes "drown" when there are so many options around.
anyways, two of the fishes passed on already, due to stress i believe, the other two are still healthy.
don't think they are worth any value, kinda low quality parrot fishes. :X

thats sad to hear.those type of owners should go jail or something..speaking about that i remembered that some sick dude bought a pack full of platies and than simply threw all of the poor fish into the drain! managed to save some of them and got the guy reported to police![]()

Advice from boss Felix

Diaz, did the police take any action? And... why would anyone do something like that?

even if they did, i think its only a fine. and if he is a mental patient, the police can only advise the family accordingly bout him, unless he is violence etc. am not a police officer, but did my time in NS.
don't think there's any jail term under the penal code for such act.
cheers!

Think there's some regulations about introducing non native fanua into local ecosystems
The role of master and servant begin to cloud in the water..
think so. most probably covered under environment act. and mostly would be fines i guess.
cheers!
