Is there a diff btw the 2 ?
osram sounds nicer
AEC sounds japanese
osram should cost 15 at nature
Osram is a well know brand, so quality may be better as they may have been in the lighting business longer. To the naked eye they may not seem different, so it's hard to say which better.
So far I've been using AEC tubes and they do do pretty well for my tank. Opted for this tube cos it was cheaper and more easily available.

I bot my osram bulb at $13.00 a pc
philips the same px, but no stock
I Love Penang
The Osram PL tube mentioned should be 6000K. So it is should be yellowish light. May look quite dull.
The philips 865 or AEC is 6500K is daylight white would be more suitable for the planted tank.
Osram Dulux L 86 is white light(very close to that of the sun)----------------

Osram 840 - 4000k
Philips 865 - 6500k
Thanx Mech...... 6000K got abit yellow rite compared to 6500K?
4000K definately too yellow. No way it will be nice for planted tank, IMO.

Mech is right!
Personally between 6000K and 6500K < I can't tell the difference. both looks the same colour to me. I spoke to a light specialist, he says for a planted tank, colour 86 would suffice.
I'm using 2 osram 36watts Dulux L 86 and 2 phillps 36watts 865 n it's doing a great job for my plants.

OK......
Eng Chuan,
Thanx for the contact.....
is there any kind of PL with colour temperatre higher than 6500?
my tanks are not planted so i want as white and bright as possible..
Yeah want to know about the super white light .
The current AEC ones i got from Nature are daylight...more yellow to the eye.
Asked the guy there , he say 10k will be closer to whitish blue , not yellowish.
Artvale,
The AEC should be 6500K, daylight. Warm white should be less than 6000K which is yellowish. If I'm not mistaken, the daylight tubes are quite white. If the Kelvin was higher, it would look more bluish already.
LSZ,
There are PLs higher than 6500K, but not so easily available in the market. Some shops may agree to get them for you but you need to buy bulk.
yeah using osram 860 now the light is too yellowish for my liking. thus looking for something like 7500 or ard there.
thanks
U guyz use Aqualux?
Cheers!
