Wow. I'll sticky this in the marketplace, since many of AQ members do transact at the MRT stations.
Now, I'm curious... what if it's just passing things. Like I meet a friend to lend him my luggage for his overseas trip.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
I believe common sense dictate that doing so might cause a bottleneck to occur at the gate. Sometimes, people might hang around that area after doing their transaction while waiting to see who else or how many other are buying the stuff they just bought. I don't know why they do that. So it is better to do their transaction somewhere else away from the ticket gate and also away from the area around the escalator too as this might be another area to get congested with human traffic.
It is better to have your transaction done somewhere else away from the ticket gate or the mouth of the escalator. Preventing congestion is one thing but for safety is another. You do not want to lose your cash to a snatch thief in this area. The thief could just snatch your cash while he is travelling on the escalator and it will difficult for you to go against the traffic flow to get to the thief just as a bottleneck is occuring.
Hope this helps!

If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.
Mohamad Rohaizal is my name. If it's too hard, use BFG. I don't mind.
Maybe next time you will get tax for passing things. You never know! 1kg $1 with GST. Ha ha
They said transaction over the fare gate. What about over the barrier dividing the paid/unpaid areas?
I can understand their rationale. As a passenger, I would not be very happy if the stations/gates are choked by the people who are not traveling. It's also a matter of public safety. If there is a fire, the have more people to evacuate. Crowded places like these tend to be prime terrorists targets too.
They are caught in a tough spot... if they have this rule, people complain. If the place got choked up by such transactions, other people complain. I guess they try to strike a balance... have the rule, so it can be enforced, but just chase away offenders instead of aggressively persecuting them.

think passing of goods and leave once the deal is done should be ok..
but if you are selling a lot and wait at the gate there, I think it will not be good..
what if I buy a packet of rice for my friend and passed it to him at the gate with one person in the paid area and the other not, and my friend passed me the money.. like that also fine?
yup that according to the article, if I understand it correctly.
wow.. i did that so often...

this is amazing! LOL! It's for all the people that don't wanna pay for the journey by tapping out and tapping back in again.
LOL.. just did that around 3 days ago!
Just now tapped out to meet a nice bro to adopt his cute snails because an MRT staff was standing nearby. I think it's better not to take chances. Frankly, most people do not know of this MRT regulation, and if anyone was to be fined... it would be really sad and unfair.
Fancy Guppies: Many cute ones. Live Fish Fry Cultures: Microworms, Grindal worms & Vinegar eels.
actually think that MRT staff will not fine you if there is not much traffic and that you meet with the other party at some ulu(not sure which word to use to replace, my apologies) corner of the gantry and not block the waya few MRT staff used to come look see what i'm doing but they are fine with it so i guess its still up to oneself to take chances accordingly...
Too much of a fish SIAO to quit fish keeping/fishing..
