I read a post from Nick saying that he is keeping Holland Rams.

This reminds me of a question i posted in another forum. I will bring it here again.

Is the holland ram a natural breed, as in it is found as it is in the wild, or issit an "enhanced" strain?

it would be close to the natural strain, i think
but if you remember, there were 3 taxonomic names for m. geophagus, apistogramma, microgeophagus and papiliochromis ramirezi
who's to say whether there ARE or aren't subspecies?
    *shrug*
    i wouldn't worry about it

yes lsz, Microgeophagus ramirezi r from the wild .. except for the ballon rams.

they come from Orinoco,Venezuela,Columbia... in the Aqualog book, they feature the 'white' form.. very nice.. there is abt 5 species.. namely, the 'blue' , 'asia-breeding', 'white', 'gold', 'red-gold'

    thanks guys.

well the qn is like asking "the crowntail betta also bears the "scientific" name Betta Splenden. But is it an enhanced species as result of selective and specific breeding" ?

the holland ram...did it originate from venzuela or from a breeeder's tank in holland or germany?

considering it ranges from venezuela and columbia, i don't think it came from holland
so i'd have to go with the breeder's theory
