Hello.. Decided that if I were to post shrimps photos, I should just put it in this section... You may find out more of my tank set up under Aquascaping~Sharing my set up!

After 2 weeks of tank cycling, I decided to put in 10 Cherry Shrimps to test water since the conditions are stabilizing and that there were tons of biofilm around.. You may view the photos in my thread under Aquascaping.

Just 2 days back, I have finally decided to add in 10 Rili Shrimps and 10 Blue Shrimps... Just to clear the air, maybe there can be anyone who can really enlighten me on the Blue Shrimps I have purchased on their exact species. Thanks!

    Rili and Blue Shrimps!

The new addition to the family! Cherry offspring.

The Blue Shrimp I have gotten. Anybody to identify the true identity??

Mass feeding... and they are still frenzily feeding now...

Will come up with more shots in time to come!

    Meanwhile, enjoy!

Hey... Thanks! Well, apparently when I indicated Blue Pearl Shrimps in another thread, somebody told me to get the term correct.. Hahaha...

I think you mentioned it as Blue Jelly shrimp instead of Blue Pearl if not wrong... But there has been many names for blue shrimps out there...

Oh... I realised I indicated as Blue Jelly shrimp. Hahaha! Apologies for the mistake.

all your shrimps in the tank will inter breed. are there 2 different tanks? seems like 1 is soil and 1 is gravel.

Oh no... There is only 1 tank. If you look at my set up under aquascaping ~ sharing my set up, you will see the tank. The white gravel is like a path in the plains. You know what I mean? Hahaha. Oh great.. But I don't think I will be expecting nice colours if they do interbreed~

The gravel is not shrimp friendly.

Care to explain more? Anyway, I got this pack of gravel from SeaView. Wanted to get sand, but this looks like a substitute. Maybe the tank is still young and I have not seen much changes here and there.

Oh yes... Heard about it. Actually I am waiting for my gH to raise up. Haha... It's a bit low. But meanwhile, I am still doing preventive measures like using filter water and distilled water to top up...

    People, update!

I just discovered a berried Blue Pearl in my tank yesterday night! Well, to add on, none of the Blue Pearls that I bought back was berried. That makes the discovery even more exciting!

I guessed it is really liking the waters in my tank?

Re: Sharing my set up (Shrimps)

Getting berried is not an indicator of good water conditions.
You must see the eggs hatch, the babies grow up (with minimal deaths) and the babies getting berried themselves before you can conclude that.

It's a common misconception that encouraged new keepers to get lazy on husbandry, or to overfeed or start to buy even more shrimps and overstock the tank.
IMHO, 2 weeks cycling is not enough. I'm the old school type who believes in at least 2 months of cycling without stem plants, or 1 month with stem plants.

The cause of the 'berrying' is probably due to the change in water parameter that caused them to molt and after being tackled by male shrimps ...they got berried ...( that is why sometimes when you change water, more molts can be observed) .
    Aspiring to be.

Haha, thanks for the advice. I happened to be old school as well, thankfully to my strict betta keeping regime previously. Yes! I do believe that 2 months is the most ideal for cycling a tank. Seeing the shrimp berry does excite me.. But not to the extent of becoming silly. Haha!

Oh... Perhaps that is why I don't see much molting happening. To be honest, I also cannot find the blue shrimp's molt anywhere. They cleared it quite fast. Haha!
