Small Cichlids attacking Tiger Barb twice its size

Anyone hear of that happening before? Think its an African Cichlid (orange coloured one). The crazy fish keeps attacking the Tiger Barb who will also attack fish but runs from this cichlid! This Chichlid also attacks all other fishes...is this normal?

cichlids are rather notorious for being territorial/aggressive. I've had a small 2cm female apisto (not defending any brood, by the way) terrorize 9 altum angels. Wherever she went, the altums had to avoid her or she'd charge at them. These altums weren't wimps either. They killed and ate 1/2 of the ember tetras I put in that tank overnight and I was forced to remove the rest. They have also since eaten 100+ cardinal tetras in another tank, and are dominant over my discus as well

I guess its normal behaviour, especially for African cichlids in your case. I've experienced apistos blinding peruvian angels many times their size and also ripping a fellow apisto into two pieces literally.

That's why I love cichlids too.

are you supposed to keep cichlids with other kind of fish? they are rather aggresive. your orange coloured cichlid may grow very big...

Oh gosh, its like they are the freddy kruegers of the fish world!

I think I should seperate them! My bad for not understanding the fishes first. That is why now I am going to have a seperate tank for my barbs...
