For fries wise maybe you can leave it with the female till its about a gd size to seperate... Maybe 2 weeks after free swimming... As they grow faster in the tank where they are born... For me I had been successfully raise the fries with bbs...

I used to use decap brine shrimp eggs to raise my apisto fry. Despite many naysayers saying how bad it is, need to pre-soak or you will kill the fry (due to expanding in the gut), too big (ridiculous as it is smaller than bbs), fry won't like cuz not moving etc, I have successfully raised many batches of fry from them

    Re: Your Favourite Apistogramma!

I used both bbs and decap bbs eggs for quite sometimes. My observation, it's ok to use decap bbs or fries food, but the survival rate will be lower than using live food like bbs or microworms. Also, the growth rate might be uneven as some fries might not find enough food. Also, take some time to "teach" them to feed on the non moving target.

Of course, brewing live bbs always a troublesome task.

Very Good Fries Raising Tips from everyone.

    In a nutshell:
    1) Sponge filter
    2) Decap BBS, Live BBS, microworms as food
    3) Fill tank with wood, leaves and moss
    4) Separate the male, leave the mother with the fries

    Did i leave anything out?

I recall reading a post by either Mike Wise or apistomaster (IIRC, but can't be certain) where he said he removes the female instead of the male and the success rate of raising fry is 100% (not survival, just that they grow to be adults all the time instead of getting eaten). He attributed this to the fact that males are less jittery and less likely to panic and eat the fry if you happen to scare the parent(s).

I also read that female will culled or eat the fry in order to spawn.

For what I do I'll catch out the fries a week or two after they are free swimming... Their size will be better and stronger...

Interesting. So whats the best option now? My initial view is to leave the female with the fries until they are free swimming. Then i'll remove the fries to a grow a tank. Now, i am confused. hmm.

    Re: Your Favourite Apistogramma!

have you had the feeling of walking out of a lfs feeling very guilty due to an impulse buy?

    I did today..

Adoketa Trio which i suspect all might be females. Just damn hard to differentiate. Why i say so is because my male eliz is in the same tank with them but all of them are scared of the male eliz. Eliz(despite being smaller size) flares at all of them and they just move away. However, it can be said that they are new additions to the tank. Lets see.

Like humans, each pair and each parent is different. If one method do not work on our fish, then we try another method. A pair will spawn more than once, keep trying and don't give up.

The dark line extending from the pectoral to the anal opening suggests it is a trifasciata.
Marc, do you have any videos of the adoketa?

    Re: Your Favourite Apistogramma!

haha i agree with Jit, it looks more like a trifaaciata to me too. thick body line, round tail. tall dorsal, and a bluish face last but not least the thin line which runs to the anal.
