Seems like the only way for anyone to get any other apisto is to travel to HK/TW/JP and bring back on their own. I noticed nowadays that even Apistogramma hoignei has disappeared from the LFS.

I asked JZX before to bring in wild apisto and ram from South America since they now have Hudson of H&K Ornamental Fish(Brazil) as their supplier of wild discus, but the boss Jia Rong replied that they only bring in wild discus for the time being.

Very hard for them.... In Singapore most people expect cheap good and nice... Only a few willing to pay for quality... And expected the fish to be a bonded pair or proven pair...

I wonder where scope is. he used to bring in so many unique species.

as for JZX, i am sure he is willing to work things out. probably you guys need to have a consolidated order and approach him. that way, as long as his stock can be cleared to cover the costs of bringing the apisto in, i am sure he would not mind

Well, I will start the ball rolling. I am looking at a wild-caught Hongsloi, anyone else interested to get in a pool to get it from the source through JZX?

    Re: Your Favourite Apistogramma!

That is why lfs also hard to do business... Me myself selling off cheap breeding pair yet people still want lower price... Just imagine I bring in myself certain fishes but those who buy just want it real cheap... As for some bro who had bought my fishes will only know the quality of fishes I had sold because they really pay for quality... So just imagine lfs they need to pay rental and electric bill what more we can expect...

    Re: Your Favourite Apistogramma!

JZX had quite a lot of fishes for each species the last time I went which was about a month and a half ago. The downside for most hobbyists is that you would have to choose males and females yourself. I'm not sure whether they've sorted them out into pairs. I think that is part of the fun of keeping apistos. You never know when you might end up with a sneaker male. I really miss the time a few years ago when NKS brought in wild shipments.

Incidentally, this Apisto baenschi was from a wild caught shipment from NKS then.

It turned out to be a sneaker male!

no way. I would have put my bet on this piece being a female.

Yup, NKS used to bring in huge wild specimens from Peru.

    Re: Your Favourite Apistogramma!

Like that is also a sneaker male! Amazing fish.
One good thing about choosing a male and female from a tankful of them is your can observe for and net a bonded pair. If you get the fish on the day of shipment arrival you can still pick from the bags and most of the time they are marked with F or M. But does that mean we will not get sneakers?

    Re: Your Favourite Apistogramma!

Yes most of the time it seemed to be a female in breeding colours and swam together with the male beanschi. IMHO, I think it is not possible to tell with certainty which are sneakers especially in young fish, which is why they are "sneaky". Wild fish come in large bags most of the time and often are not even labelled with the correct species. Also its very hard to spot a bonded pair with so many fishes in one tank.

Nice fish. If the blue markings on the face were more intense, the male would be spectacular.
The gravel is very attractive too. Where did you get it?
